What is The Land of the Sweets?

The Land of the Sweets (LOS) is an original and inclusive adaptation of the beloved holiday classic, The Nutcracker. This vibrant production is part of an educational outreach program presented by Tybee Ballet Theatre in partnership with the Tybee Arts Association and the Tybee Post Theater. Made possible through the generous sponsorship of local businesses and families, LOS is a true community effort that celebrates creativity, accessibility, and the magic of the performing arts.

Open auditions welcome participants of all ages and experience levels—no dance background required—and every individual who auditions is cast in a role. Each performer is provided with professional, handmade costumes, ensuring that everyone shines on stage. Over a three-month period, the cast dedicates themselves to more than 150 rehearsals in preparation for four main performances and additional field trip shows, all hosted right here on Tybee Island. Best of all, LOS is completely free for all youth cast members, making it a joyful and inclusive experience for the entire community.
