Shana N. Toney found her love for movement and performance at the young age of 4, when she began classes in baton and jazz dance. At the age of 16, her passion was rekindled when she took her first ballet class at her home studio in Hartwell, Georgia. There she participated performance productions and dance competitions at the regional, state, and national level.
In 2015, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brenau University with a BA in Dance and English Literature. While attending Brenau, she trained in ballet, modern, and jazz technique, as well as improvisation, dance pedagogy and teaching methods, with an emphasis in choreography and performance.
Shana has presented award-winning choreography at American College Dance Association as well as numerous dance competitions and has taken master classes and workshops from many notable dance artists including George Staib (Emory University) and the Galen Hooks Method in New York City. Shana taught dance ages 3-18 for a decade in the Northeast Georgia region before relocating to Savannah. Though she now pursues other opportunities in her career, she is grateful to have found this community where she shares her passion and love of dance with the beautiful humans of Tybee Ballet Theatre.
